This week I’ve been working on a rather wonderful and unusual commission for renowned bridalwear designer Sati Takhar.
Sati got in touch with me to commission a lamp for his latest bridalwear photoshoot starring Jana Perez. (“Who” you say? Yes me too until he pointed out it was the hot one from that Haagan-Dazs advert with Bradley Cooper). During a brief meeting- Sati is wonderfully decisive – where we discussed shapes, trims and the feel of the gown and photoshoot, Sati handed over some fabric, the very same fabric used in the gown…..Oh me oh my….aubergine silk velvet, hand beaded in India, the stuff a fabric junkie gets pretty excited about it.
I stretched the velvet over my supersized pumpkin shaped frame in raw copper, hand stitching the fabric directly onto the frame. I love trimming the excess after hand stitching as it gives you your first glimpse of the silhouette of the lamp.
Hand stitching long dipdyed fringe gave the shade a glamorous, dramatic look that complements the rich velvet and metallic tones in the embellishment.
I’ll share the images from the shoot as soon as I have them!
