Interior Designer Amelia Heggie of Denim Interiors had her bedroom lined with a fabulous Deborah Bowness wallpaper and wanted a bespoke lamp that complemented it.
She loved the soft oval shape and vintage fringe of my Primrose lamp but wanted colours to suit her paper.
After discussing the mood of the room, I designed several options which enhanced different colours present in the paper and sent Amelia swatches to choose from.
She’d fallen hard for the fringe of Primrose and decided on the soft vintage floral to accompany it, and a solid hand turned Walnut base which leant a nostalgic, romantic feel to the lamp. The dramatuc dark frame leant it a modern edge.
I attach the fringe with tiny hand stitches along the top and bottom edge of the braid, i never use glues. This means the shade will stay in perfect shape and can be enjoyed over many years without any nasty glues seeping through the fabric over time. It’s time consuming and skilled work but I enjoy creating pieces that will stand the test of time and that are made properly, using techniques unchanged for generations.
